Jupiter art land

how can it point if
the worlds revolving
Just off to the left of Edinburgh through steel gates and a small windy road there is a pocket full of design and sculpture. This relic of beauty is called Jupiter Artland. So on the cold but not raining morning of yesterday we, as a class task, decided to explore this relum.

So a background - this exhibit ground is a privately owned property by Nicky and Robert Wilson whims vision was to create a place where artists could create a place to showcase there work. They bought an 80 acres space which has since showcased over 65 pieces of carefully picked out and placed masterpieces.

As you enter the land you are greeted but one of the most amazing modern artworks i have seen. CELLS OF LIFE by  Charles Jencks these spectacular mounds of art spiral up to a flat top to where you can gaze over pockets of water and bridges which link the mounds together. Climbing up them in the mud is an artwork in its own.

After playing on them, in an educational sense of course... we ventured though the land, with no path set path it was a mystery on what we will find next. Its whole concept a playground for designers and artists alike.
So exploring a bit more, we met the the pit of doom, or its real name SUCK by Anish Kapoor i think he should change the name tbh. anyway all it is a concrete black hole in the ground with a very big cage wrapped around it just wide enough so we cant see the bottom. Its mind games or psychology behind creating the memorizing artwork is fascinating stepping back and seeing people on there tiptoes or people with there phones on arms reach trying to see the bottom is a real humorous and clever display on human psychology.

Another thought provoking piece, which will also be my last as I want to give you something to look forward to when you decide to explorer this vessel of beauty and wisdom, is a piece with a more sinister side. A mini family grave yard. but its not the grave stones or contents that I consider to be the best part. Its the entrance. Nathan Coley, its creator had carefully measured his width of his shoulder and used the exact size at the measurements as the door. His personal detail must make the creator feel constantly connected with his piece and make it feel like it his gave. In a kind of sinister way but with that thought and planing makes this piece even more spectacular.

There are even more wonderful pieces of art scattered around the landscape each with its own meaning and I would definitely recommend visiting it... in the summer when its warmer and you have more daylight and warmth to look around.
