Phyllis Pearsall

Phyllis Pearsall is one of my all-time heroes.

She single handily walked across London with a notebook and a pen recording every turn, nook and crannie to create the A- Z of London.

She walked 3,000 miles down 23,000 streets 18 hours a day for over a year. and I complain about working 10 hour shifts at work. Her determination and commitment fascinates me. She is incredible. along with her commitment she is filled with fascinating stories. Like delivering here first 1200 copies of the map to WHSmith in a borrowed wheelbarrow from the local pub. or having to travel to Amsterdam to print copies of the map as there where paper shortages in England.  When the war broke out and selling maps was forbidden she worked drawing woman in factories then continued as chairman for her company until she died in 1996 at the age of 90. She is a real feminine hero.
