The Independent Group

The IG (independent group) is a group of artists that formed that promoted Pop Art. The group formed of individuals as previous talked about Richard Hamilton. Alongside Nigel Henderson, Sir Eduardo and Paolozzi. They met in the 1950s and discussed and planed an art exhibition called "this is tomorrow". They wanted to revolutionise the art they learnt in school as they did not see it as relevant and could not understand how it was to do with the things around them any more. They looked to new exciting everyday things that affected them like music, comic books , Hollywood, advertisement ect. and they succeeded tremendously

Pop art described by Hamilton as “ Popular (designed for a mass audience), Transient (short-term solution), Expendable (easily forgotten), Low cost, Mass produced, Young (aimed at youth), Witty, Sexy, Gimmicky, Glamorous, Big business”  thanks tate - http://www.tate.org.uk/art/art-terms/p/pop-art

Pop art is still seen a lot in my everyday life and I believe that it has contributed to art form such as graffiti allowing people to express their true feeling and display what it important and relevant to them.
